Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between“private care” and “home care”?
Private Care is a service that provides a long list of services, everything from daily chores to errands and home health care - whatever you or your family need. Private care is paid for out-of-pocket or by a long term care insurance plan. You do not have to meet Medicare requirements, and a doctor's referral is not needed.

Home health care is possible with a doctor's referral, and Medicare must approve the services.

How long has Nix Private Care been serving the community?
Nix Private Care has been serving the greater San Antonio and surrounding areas for years.

What type of screening is done on caregivers coming into my home?
To ensure that caregivers coming into your home are competent and trustworthy, every applicant is thoroughly screened, trained, and tested before being hired by Nix Private Care. Here is a partial list of what is done on each applicant before hire:

  • Extensive personal interview is conducted by a supervising nurse
  • Drug testing
  • Background check through the Texas Department of Human Services
  • Drivers record check
  • Criminal history check
  • Texas Workforce Commission check
  • Texas Misconduct Registry check
  • Skills competency exam completed
  • Verification of training through the Texas Department of Human Services

Is the Nix Private Care staff accessible anytime of the day if a need should occur?
Nix Private care staff can be called at any time, 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Our staff is always prepared to respond in critical or emergency cases.

What are all the services provided by Nix Private Care?
Our staff includes a wide range of medical professionals who are trained to perform whatever medical and non-medical services you may need. The team of professionals includes skilled nurses, physical, speech and occupational therapists, medical social workers, certified nurses aides, and home care aides.

Who is involved in developing the plan of care?
Our Nursing Supervisor meets with you and your family in your home to determine what type of care is needed and wanted. Working together, a care plan is written up that is completely customized to your individual needs.

Who ensures that the care plan is being followed?
A licensed nurse ensures the care plan is being followed and that your needs, family requests, or doctor's orders are being met. Any time there is a change in your needs, a Nursing Supervisor will reassess your situation and change the care plan accordingly. In addition to regular visits by the Nursing Supervisor, Nix Private Care has a Quality Assurance Coordinator who makes regular home visits to make sure that you are satisfied with your care and that the latest care plan is being followed.

Will it always be the same person who comes to the house?
Whenever possible, we have the same caregiver go to your home. If for any reason you would like to change caregivers, we will work closely with you to fulfill your request.
